‘Water is the source of life and the most precious of commodities, and yet nearly half of humanity suffers from a lack of clean drinking water or sanitation.’
According to the United Nations, about 1.2 billion people – nearly a fifth of the world’s population – live in areas where water is scarce and that figure is set to increase by another 500 million during the next decade. It’s also estimated that more than 2.6 billion people lack basic sanitation. Building a water well or establishing a water hand pump is the simplest, and in many cases the cheapest, way of reaching large numbers of people who do not otherwise have access to clean and safe drinking water. As part of our commitment to eliminate water poverty, Islamic Help is dedicated to continuing its work on long term solutions for the benefit of communities in Africa and Asia.
